English Version
On May 22, 2025, the European Union classified Thailand as a "low-risk" country under its EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR). This regulation, effective later this year for medium to large EU companies, aims to ensure that specific imported products, including soy, cocoa, palm oil, wood, coffee, and beef, are not linked to deforestation. Products must be legally produced and undergo a three-step due diligence process: information collection, risk assessment, and risk mitigation.
Thailand’s designation as low-risk is a significant advantage, especially in its challenging economic landscape. Thai exporters will enjoy exemptions from complex compliance costs, reducing the financial burden of entering the EU market. This classification fosters opportunities for Thailand, particularly in rubber and palm oil sectors, by attracting imports away from higher-risk countries.
