Thai authorities have cut electricity, internet, and fuel supply to five locations in Myanmar linked to call center scam operations. The measure, which took effect at 9:00 AM today, follows prior warnings and discussions with all relevant parties. The Thai government has emphasized that this action is a national security measure and does not interfere with Myanmar’s internal affairs.

The Ministry of Defense and the Ministry of Interior determined that transnational scam networks operating in Myanmar were exploiting Thai electricity and infrastructure to run fraudulent schemes. These operations have caused severe financial and security damage, with more than 550,000 reported fraud cases resulting in losses exceeding 86 billion baht, or approximately 80 million baht per day. Given the impact on Thai citizens, the government decided to terminate utilities at the identified locations. Authorities ensured that essential services, including hospitals, were notified in advance to minimize disruptions to non-criminal entities.

The five targeted locations were confirmed to have direct ties to scam syndicates. Thai officials have formally notified Myanmar authorities and emphasized that these sites pose a direct security threat to Thailand. While acknowledging the potential effects on surrounding communities, the Thai government stressed that the responsibility for addressing local consequences lies with Myanmar’s administration. Future enforcement will align with Thailand’s closure of 51 border crossings, with the National Security Council (NSC) coordinating further security measures.

One of the affected areas is Ban Chedi Sam Ong – Payathonzu in Mon State, which is managed by Mya Pan Investment and Manufacturing Company Limited. Another location is Ban Muang Daeng – Tachileik in Shan State, which is operated by Allure Group (P&E). The Thai-Myanmar Friendship Bridge in Tachileik, also in Shan State, is managed by Allure Group (P&E) Limited.
