The Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand has updated drone regulations, allowing flights countrywide except in specific border districts. Operators must register and comply with conditions, including time, location, and altitude restrictions.
Updated Drone Regulations in Thailand
The Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand (CAAT) has released new regulations under Notice No. 10, effective from November 16-30 or until further notice. These relaxed rules permit drone flights across most of Thailand, except in designated districts of seven border provinces. The restrictions emphasize safety, particularly in regions with military operations or close to the Thai-Cambodian border. Unlawful drone activities are subject to reporting, and specific areas remain off-limits.
Drone Operation Conditions
Drone usage is permitted nationwide with strict compliance. Flights are allowed from 06:00 to 18:00 hrs, up to a 90-meter altitude. Operators must register drones and pilot licenses with CAAT, submitting flight details three days in advance via the UAS Portal. Special permissions are mandatory for operations outside stipulated hours. Government agencies retain authorization for operational flights but require prior notification if working in restricted borders.
Compliance and Enforcement
All drones entering Thailand must be registered with the NBTC and CAAT to ensure safe legal operation. Potential penalties include fines and confiscation for violations. Special operations like night flights need written CAAT approval. The NBTC handles ownership registration, while the CAAT manages overall compliance through its online portals. Insurance is compulsory, with coverage of at least one million Thai Baht. Public cooperation is encouraged for reporting any violations to the appropriate authorities.
