Launch of “Amazing Thailand Grand Tourism and Sports Year 2025”
On February 3, 2025, Thailand launched its “Amazing Thailand Grand Tourism and Sports Year” initiative, aimed at celebrating cultural heritage, tourism, and sporting events. Set to include year-round festivals and tournaments, it aims to reinforce Thailand’s global standing in tourism and sports, targeting 39 million international visitors and 3 trillion Baht in revenue. Prime Minister H.E. Ms. Paetongtarn Shinawatra emphasized enhancing infrastructure and experiences to inspire visitors, marking Thailand as a hub for festivals and international events.
Government’s Vision for Tourism Growth
Minister of Tourism and Sports, Mr. Sorawong Thienthong, highlighted the government’s IGNITE THAILAND’S TOURISM vision to establish Thailand as a leading tourism and sports hub. Efforts include public-private collaboration to increase travel convenience through online immigration systems and improved transportation. Tourism personnel development and sustainable standards for hotels are also prioritized, ensuring a world-class travel experience, benefiting both major destinations and lesser-known spots.
Emphasis on Sports and Events
The Sports Authority of Thailand plays a crucial role in positioning sports as a tourism driver. Major sporting events planned include hosting the 33rd SEA Games and the FIVB Women’s Volleyball World Championship. This initiative also features the Muaythai World Festival and MotoGP, supporting economic growth and establishing Thailand as a global sports hub. These events strive for inclusivity in sports, attracting global visitors and contributing to long-term economic sustainability.
