The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) under the Ministry of Tourism and Sports cordially invites travelers to the 17th World Wai Kru Muay Thai Ceremony on March 16-17, 2025, set against the gorgeous Ayutthaya Historical Park. Organized with the theme “Once in a Lifetime: Experience the Wai Kru Muay Thai Ceremony in Thailand,” the event highlights Muay Thai’s rich cultural traditions and international influence.
Cultural and Martial Arts Highlights
Hosted at Wat Mahathat and Wat Langkha Khao, part of the Thailand Summer Festivals 2025, the event features live demonstrations of Muay Thai Boran styles like Muay Chaiya and Muay Korat. Visitors can explore traditional crafts, sacred tattooing, and enjoy interactive training sessions at the Muay Thai Academy Showcase. Additionally, the Grand Wai Kru Ceremony on March 17 brings together thousands of practitioners paying homage to their masters.
Economic Impact and Cultural Significance
Expected to draw 5,300 attendees, including 1,800 international visitors, the ceremony is set to generate 158 million Baht. TAT Deputy Governor Mrs. Chiravadee Khunsub emphasizes its influence on experience-based tourism, while Ayutthaya’s Vice Governor highlights the significance of hosting the event in a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This gathering not only showcases Muay Thai as a Soft Power asset but also boosts tourism and the local economy.
