Six Thai destinations are recognized in Green Destinations Top 100 Stories for 2024, highlighting Thailand’s commitment to sustainable tourism, with diverse categories reflecting cultural, environmental, and community-driven practices.
Thailand’s Sustainable Tourism Recognition
Bangkok, 22 October 2024 – Thailand’s tourism sector celebrates significant recognition as six Thai destinations have been included in the 2024 Green Destinations’ Top 100 Stories. This acknowledgment highlights Thailand’s commitment to sustainable tourism development. The Designated Areas for Sustainable Tourism Administration (DASTA) submitted stories featuring Chiang Khan and Songkhla City, recognized in the Thriving Communities category, U Thong Ancient City in Destination Management, and Wiang Phu Phiang Chae Haeng in Culture and Tradition.
Individual Destinations Spotlight
Hua Hin’s journey towards becoming a garbage-free city was acknowledged under the Environment and Climate category, thanks to efforts by the city’s Municipality. Moreover, Uthai Thani Old Town received recognition within the Culture and Tradition category. Ms. Thapanee Kiatphaibool, Governor of the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), applauded DASTA, Hua Hin Municipality, and Uthai Thani Town Municipality for their commitment to sustainable tourism, aligning with TAT’s vision of making Thailand a leading experience-based tourist destination.
Global Recognition and Achievements
Notably, the selected stories are among ten other Thai recognitions in the Green Destinations Top 100 Stories between 2020-2023. Chiang Khan stands out as the first ASEAN destination to earn the Green Destinations Award in Silver at the ITB Berlin 2024. The 2024 Top 100 Stories list reflects a diverse array of sustainable tourism success stories from 32 countries, unveiled in Chile during the Green Destinations Global Conference, celebrating international sustainability endeavors.
