CHANGZHOU, China, Sept. 18, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — On September 17, State Grid Changzhou Power Supply Company carried out automation renovation on the 10 kV Longdang Line. By replacing outdated ring main units and line switches, and taking advantage of planned power outages to batch-replace aging disconnecting switches and insulating sheaths on customer demarcation switches, the project further upgraded the line’s automation capacity, eliminated safety hazards and reduced the likelihood of faults.
As the "last mile" connecting the power grid to end users, the distribution network’s automation level directly determines power supply reliability and customer electricity experience. During this renovation, the company replaced one old ring main unit and one line switch with new automated equipment to enable remote fault monitoring and isolation. Meanwhile, seizing the window of planned power cut, crews batch-upgraded aging disconnecting switches and fitted new insulating sheaths on customer demarcation switches within the outage zone, removing latent risks at the source and lowering fault risks.
To minimise power outage duration, the company deployed multiple work teams for coordinated operations, optimised construction workflows and strengthened on-site safety control. All work was completed in just over three hours on the day, limiting disruption to local residents and businesses.
Since the start of this year, the company has rolled out intelligent automation upgrades for the distribution network through live-line working and mobile power generation operations. To date, nearly 300 renovated automated ring main units and pole-mounted circuit breakers have been put into service in Jintan District of Changzhou alone. The coverage rate of standardised automated distribution lines has reached 99%, delivering marked improvements in automation practicality and power supply reliability.
