HONG KONG, Oct. 14, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — GreenCo ESG Advisory Limited ("GreenCo") has introduced a new ESG data collection solution designed to help companies improve the accuracy, consistency and traceability of sustainability data collected from bills, records, invoices and other supporting documents.
Addressing the Growing Need for Reliable ESG Data
As sustainability reporting becomes increasingly structured and subject to greater scrutiny, companies are facing growing expectations around the quality and reliability of their underlying ESG data. With external assurance requirements also being introduced in various jurisdictions, companies need stronger processes to demonstrate how reported figures are collected, calculated and supported by source records.
GreenCo developed its new solution to address this practical challenge, helping companies streamline the collection of large volumes of ESG data while maintaining a clearer link between reported figures and their underlying documentation.
From Source Documents to Structured ESG Data
The solution streamlines the collection and preparation of ESG data from supporting documents, including:
- Document extraction: Upload electricity and water bills, invoices, fuel records, procurement records and other supporting documents through an online form, with relevant information extracted into the required data fields.
- Data consolidation: Consolidate information from multiple documents, such as monthly electricity bills, into a structured dataset for annual reporting.
- Language and unit conversion: Process documents in different languages and convert units according to the company’s requirements, such as converting paper box quantities into kilograms or tonnes based on agreed specifications.
- Batch processing: Process approximately 10 to 20 supporting files in a single processing round, depending on the document types and configuration.
Making ESG Data More Traceable
A key feature of the solution is its calculation functionality, which provides visibility into how a consolidated result has been derived.
Rather than presenting only a final figure, the solution can show the relevant source data, conversion factors, formulas and calculation steps used to arrive at the result. This gives companies a clearer trail for internal review and helps reviewers identify missing information, inconsistencies or calculation issues before the data is incorporated into ESG reporting.
"The quality of an ESG report ultimately depends on the quality of the data behind it. As companies prepare for increasingly rigorous reporting and assurance expectations, having a clear process to trace reported figures back to their underlying records is becoming increasingly important," said Max Tsang, Director and Co-Founder of GreenCo. "We developed this solution to make data collection more systematic and transparent, rather than simply automating data entry."
Configured for Each Company’s Requirements
The solution is designed around the company’s specific ESG data requirements rather than as a general-purpose AI tool. GreenCo team configures the data fields, formats, unit conversions, calculation methodologies and other parameters according to the company’s reporting boundaries and internal processes. This process is important to enhance reliability with GreenCo team’s experience and knowledge.
This approach allows companies to retain their existing data collection methodologies while reducing manual work involved in extracting, consolidating and preparing supporting information.
"For many companies, one of the biggest challenges in ESG reporting is not understanding what needs to be disclosed, but obtaining reliable data from the people, systems and documents across the organisation," said Stephanie Chan, Principal Consultant and Co-Owner of GreenCo. "Our objective is to help bridge that gap. By connecting source documents with structured data collection and transparent calculations, companies can spend less time on repetitive data preparation and more time reviewing whether the data makes sense and addressing any gaps identified."
Supporting Stronger ESG Reporting Processes
GreenCo sees the solution as part of a broader shift in ESG reporting from an annual information-gathering exercise towards a more structured data management process.
By establishing repeatable workflows for collecting, calculating and reviewing sustainability data, companies can strengthen the documentation supporting their reported figures and identify data quality issues earlier in the reporting process. This can also facilitate subsequent management review and external assurance, while appropriate internal controls, professional review and independent assurance remain essential.
GreenCo will continue to develop its ESG data solutions alongside its advisory services, combining technical sustainability expertise with practical digital tools to help companies strengthen the processes behind their ESG reporting.
