SEOUL, South Korea, Dec. 14, 2023 /PRNewswire/ — GLN International (CEO Kim Kyung-ho) has announced the signing of a cooperation agreement with JCB Co., Ltd., a Japan’s leading international payment brand in Japan, led by President & Chief Executive Officer, Takayoshi Futae. This agreement signifies a crucial stride for GLN, leveraging its accumulated expertise in global payment networks and digital technology since 2016, aiming towards a significant presence in the global mobile payment market. In the wake of this agreement, both parties will collaboratively drive Japan’s international mobile payment business, enhancing their strategic partnership.
With the partnership of GLN’s global payment network and JCB’s network in Japan, users of GLN’s payment partners in Korea and worldwide now have access to QR payments at JCB’s ‘Smart Code’ affiliated merchants. ‘Smart Code’ is JCB’s QR payment service, encompassing major digital wallets across Japan utilizing QR payment services at over one million ‘Smart Code’ affiliated merchants nationwide.
GLN will directly connect the QR payment networks between Korea and Japan. GLN users can conveniently make QR payments at Japanese offline stores displaying the ‘Smart Code’ logo, utilizing apps such as Hana Bank’s ‘Hana 1Q,’ KB Kookmin Bank’s ‘KB Star Banking,’ ‘Toss,’ and ‘Hana Money,’ thus eliminating the need for currency conversion and reducing various fees associated with international card transactions.
Kim Kyung-ho, CEO of GLN International, stated, "Through our partnership with JCB, we can now offer Japanese QR payment services to mobile wallet operators worldwide participating in the GLN network." He added, "We will continue our efforts to provide more convenient digital payment experience based on various cooperative ventures with JCB in the future."
