Most enquiries to one Singapore Criminal Defence and Family practice arrive outside office hours. Tembusu Law, whose founder built what Legaltech News reported as Singapore’s first AI legal chatbot in 2017, has opened a 24-hour WhatsApp assistant that explains Police, Divorce and Court procedure the moment the question is asked, with a free discovery call as the route to a lawyer.

SINGAPORE, Oct. 15, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — Most people who contacted Tembusu Law online over 7 months did so when the firm was shut. Of 770 online enquiries between 12 March and 11 October 2026, 57 per cent arrived outside weekday office hours of 9 AM to 6 PM. About 22 per cent came at weekends. About 17 per cent (roughly one in six) came between 10 PM and 7 AM.

These are Tembusu Law’s own figures, not a survey of the profession. The firm’s point is simpler: nobody chooses when trouble arrives, and nobody can hold the worry until Monday morning.

Arrests and Police interviews follow incidents at night and at weekends. Divorce papers are served on Saturdays. Family violence does not observe a working week. For the family of someone arrested on a Friday evening, the weekend is spent trying to find out what happens next, at an hour when nothing is open.

"Nobody schedules a crisis for Tuesday at 11 AM. It happens on a Friday night, and then there is a weekend of not knowing," said Jonathan Wong, Founder and Principal Lawyer of Tembusu Law. "What people need at that hour is usually not legal advice. It is orientation. What happens next? Can this wait until Monday? That is information, and there is no reason it should only be available in office hours."

With nobody to ask, people search and get fragmented answers: advertising, overseas law, forum posts, and out-of-date guidance. General-purpose AI aggregates that material, but at 2 AM the reader is least able to tell what is current, what applies in Singapore, and what applies to them.

Tembusu Law has opened a WhatsApp assistant at +65 8043 8674 (and on tembusulaw.com.sg) that explains how Divorce lawyer in Singapore and Criminal Defence lawyer in Singapore processes work at any hour: Police interviews, uncontested Divorce timelines, Personal Protection Orders, charges and bail. It uses curated Singapore material, not the open internet. It does not advise on anyone’s case or predict outcomes. Arrest, ongoing investigation, family violence, or a Court date within seven days is flagged to the firm. Anyone in immediate danger is told to call 999. A free 10-minute discovery call is the bridge to a lawyer.

"The problem at 2 AM is not that there is too little information," said Mr Wong. "There is far too much of it, and none of it knows anything about Singapore procedure or about you. A machine can explain a process. It should not be telling somebody what to do about their own case."

In July 2017 Mr Wong launched LawGuide Singapore’s Facebook Messenger assistant, which Legaltech News reported as Singapore’s first AI legal chatbot. He told The Straits Times then that it was not meant to provide legal advice or replace a lawyer. The rule is the same now.
