Thailand’s Agriculture Ministry Launches 2026 New Year Initiative to Support Farmers and Boost Grassroots Economy

The Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives has launched its 2026 New Year initiative titled “Delivering New Year Happiness to Farmers”, aimed at supporting farmers and the general public nationwide while stimulating the grassroots economy. The programme is expected to benefit more than 407,000 people and generate economic value of approximately 27.7 million baht.

The initiative is designed to express appreciation and boost morale among farmers, who play a vital role as the country’s primary food producers. It focuses on two key objectives: increasing household income while reducing expenses, and promoting agricultural tourism alongside public learning and engagement. The programme is being implemented through cooperation among 22 agencies under the ministry, with activities running from December 2025 through January 2026.

The initiative is structured around three main pillars. The first focuses on strengthening farmer livelihoods by providing agricultural support to reduce production costs and enhance long-term stability. Measures include the distribution of aquatic animal breeds to farmers, the upgrading of agricultural land use rights to secure land titles, mobile agricultural clinics, free animal health services and vaccinations, and the development of water management infrastructure in several provinces.

The second pillar aims to enhance New Year happiness through nationwide agricultural tourism. Ecotourism sites and selected government facilities are being opened to the public free of charge or at special rates during the holiday season. Highlights include aquariums and coastal aquaculture research centres, silk-route community tourism, the Thai–Danish Dairy Farm, the Wisdom King Farm learning route, the Agricultural Museum, reservoirs and dam viewpoints, as well as hands-on creative farming activities across multiple regions.
