The Tourism Authority of Thailand and Jeollanam-do signed an MOU to promote Thailand’s Songkran Festival and Jeollanam-do’s Jeongnamjin Jangheung Water Festival, enhancing tourism and cultural exchange.
Thailand and Jeollanam-do Sign MOU
Bangkok, 20 June 2024 – The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) and Jeollanam-do have signed an MOU to promote Thailand’s Songkran Festival and Jeollanam-do’s Jeongnamjin Jangheung Water Festival globally. The signing ceremony on 17 June 2024 in Seoul, South Korea, was attended by significant figures, including TAT Governor Ms. Thapanee Kiatphaibool and Jeollanam-do Governor Mr. Kim Young-rok.
Promoting Bilateral Tourism
Ms. Thapanee emphasized the collaboration aims to enhance mutual tourism by leveraging cultural festivals centered on water. This partnership aligns with existing agreements TAT has with Boryeong City and the Korea Association of Travel Agents (KETA) to boost travel between Thailand and South Korea. Both nations are also commemorating the “2023-2024 Korea-Thailand Mutual Visit Year,” marking 65 years of diplomatic relations.
Cultural Highlights at the Contest
During the Jeollanam-do International Tourism Culture Contest on 17-18 June 2024 in Seoul, TAT showcased Thailand through five key activities, attracting over 10,000 visitors. The Thailand booth featured Songkran cultural performances and DIY workshops such as umbrella painting and crafting Lanna hanging flags, reflecting the rich cultural exchange facilitated by the new MOU.
